So what is it with all the hashtag like this and like that and ah ….little rap throwback for those that caught it.
For all of us that have hashtag overload there are business owners who scratch their head and say “I don’t get it”. Well, simply put to business owners, hashtags are a way to extend your audience. Believe it or not there are people in the internet universe that setup social monitors or searches associated with a hashtag. Hashtags look like #hashtag (#sochi, #NBCOlympics, etc). So, by using hashtags people will catch your tweet, facebook post, or G+ post as a result. If you are posting content related to your business and using applicable hashtags, the idea is that these people engage with your brand and hopefully follow, like, or +1 your business.

Action item: begin mixing in 1 or 2 hashtags per social media post and see how it organically increases your following. When in doubt do a couple minutes of hashtag research. Now the trick is engaging with those new followers.
